Stockport Council’s 50:50 Apprenticeship Scheme

What is this scheme?

Stockport Council will provide up to 50 Apprenticeship Grants of £1,000 to employers who take on a 16, 17 or 18 year old Stockport resident.

Which employers can benefit from the 16-18 Apprenticeship grants?

Any employer except Stockport Council and companies who are also training providers are eligible.

We particularly want to support small and medium sized employers who are interested in employing an apprentice for the first time, or who want to employ an additional apprentice over and above their traditional level of recruitment.

When will the Stockport 50:50 Apprenticeship Scheme be available?

Expressions of interest for Apprenticeship grants can be made now. There is a maximum of 50 grants available and these will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Apprentices must start their course between the 28 June and 06 September 2013.

How will employers receive the grant?

Payments will be administered by Stockport Council. Employers receive the grant in one payment when the young person has completed 20 continuous weeks of their Apprenticeship/ Employment and provided 14-19 Services with the following:

A copy of the contract of employment signed and dated by the young person and the employer.

A letter from the employer confirming the young person has been employed for 20 continuous weeks.

The National Apprenticeship Service can help employers find a suitable training provider to deliver the training programme if required.

Employers must pay the apprentice the minimum Apprenticeship wage of £2.65 per hour for a minimum of 30 hours per week, including off the job training. If the apprentice leaves before 20 weeks the employer will not receive the grant.
