SETA Awards Evening 2015 – Joshua Sutton from Manchester Airport named Apprentice of the Year!

SETA Annual Awards success with Joshua Sutton (employed by Manchester Airport) claiming Apprentice of the Year title and 1st Prize Electrical Section Award.

Stockport Engineering Training Association (SETA) hosted its Annual Awards Presentation Evening on Friday 17th  April which was once again a success with over 100 apprentices, parents, employers and guests attending.

The annual awards event was hosted at Houldsworth Golf Club and was an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of apprentices. In 2014/15 SETA has circa 75 apprentices employed by a range of local and national engineering companies.

A couple of special guests attended – Professor Lorna Unwin OBE, Chair of GTA England, Graham Boanas, director of Bizniztv and Asa Elliot, tv personality. Graham Boanas, having started his career as an apprentice, delivered a motivational speech about the benefits of the apprenticeship route through giving young people the invaluable skills and practical experience they need to build their career. Graham Boanas is a known fundraiser and truly inspirational person, but in his speech he simply said, that there is really no difference between any of the young people in the room and him – and they are all equally capable of creating the successful future for themselves.

The event was also a fantastic chance to celebrate the fundraising events of apprentices and staff throughout the year. A total of £2500 was raised by apprentices in 2014/15  for SETA’s partner charity When you Wish upon a Star and SETA was delighted to award the cheque to the charity on the night! Charity cheque was presented to Ruth Jagger by Fundraiser of the year Peter Whitehead and Graham Boanas.
